Tip of the Week: Stop Google from Suggesting AI Tips in Search Results

Artificial intelligence is seen practically everywhere now, including at the top of Google’s recommended search results. If you don’t want these generated results appearing whenever you perform a search, there are ways to turn them off. In fact, you might really want them turned off… especially since they’re found to be wrong, depending on where the AI pulls this information from.

While you could use everyone’s favorite four-letter expletive in front of your search query, there are better ways to ensure you remove Google’s AI overviews without creating a NSFW situation for yourself.

Remove Google’s AI Overview from the Results Page

  1. First, you can specify that you want to search in the Web category. This option is the simplest route to removing AI from your search results.
  2. Add -ai to your search, which will remove any AI-generated options.
  3. Browser extensions are available for Chromium-based browsers (such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, and others) and Firefox.
    • a. Before installing anything on a work device, make sure your IT provider approves it.

While AI can be handy, it’s far from a perfect solution, so take care when you use it… and remember, it’s just as likely to tell you something wrong as it is to tell you something right.
